Vodafone (femto)selling half of the future

femtoGood news about Vodafone's femtocell product but I believe it's only a hop and step into the triple jump of FMC. Still, I guess you have to start somewhere.

If you're within your house though, why not just switch to WiFi and use VoIP? About time we showed these cellular companies who's the boss and hurried technology further up their agenda. 
 
After all, it's not until the music industry faced the threat of piracy that we ended up with the wonderful Spotify.
 
If they won't jump, maybe it's time to start pushing…

Are you Content not to Contend with Content?

robinHad a conversation with a colleague about Twitter today. She was claiming that you can't say anything worthwhile in 140 characters, a suggestion made by many that I've tried to explain the popular microblog to. I'd argue it depends what you're trying to say and why.

In casual conversation, ideas flow easily; often so little is said that many sentences remain incomplete, superceded by understanding as the speakers move swiftly on. Twitter is a bit like this.

Thoughts falling far from the tree?

Imaginative Apple Tree photo...With thousands of millions of downloads zinging their way to the 17 million iPhones out there in the wild, it'd be hard to argue that Apple aren't on to something with the App Store.

Sometimes business just ain’t pretty

Don't cry little iPhoneToday saw a million angry iPhone worshippers all cry out at once as Apple revealed the 'shocking' news that they won't be giving each customer hundreds of pounds worth of hardware for free. Or at least, not this time…

A number of thoughts strike me on this.

One, the free upgrade of last summer served its purpose; it sent the userbase through the roof and opened the door to a long term cash generator in the App Store. At the time, many laughed and claimed Apple were reacting to disappointing uptake at the £275 launch price.

However, in reality this early adopter tax filled the coffers while they waited for the real money-making dynamic to arrive. With these observations, how should we consider this year's launch?
